Snake Protection for Swamp Hunts

By Pallow Holmes

When venturing into the marshlands for hunting proper planning and proper gear are two keys to safety and part of the gear must include snake proof boots for swamp hunting. Snake proof boots are durable, well built boots to offer safety and comfort to hunters who either hunt snakes or hunt in their territory.

Snake boots can vary greatly from style to style, but good snake boots meant for the swamps will be around seventeen to nineteen inches long and not only protect your feet, but also your entire lower leg all the way up to the knee. This is a great design since the lower legs are often the parts of the body most succeptible to venomous snake bites.

In addition to the length snake proof boots are waterproof, warm and otherwise versatile hunting boots good for several outdoor expeditions. The other advantage to the length of the boot is protecting the ankle from spraining, twisting or other damage.

Not wearing snake proof boots can be dangerous when encountering a water moccasin. The water moccasin is a semi-aquatic version of snake similar in family to the copperhead. This snake will stand its ground or even approach an aggressor (or trespasser). They bear an average length of 30 inches but have been found to be as long as 54 inches in length.

Water moccasins tend to latch on rather than bite and release. The venom begins to digest the surrounding tissue causing pain, swelling, and occasionally tissue death. Though few bites are fatal they require two to six weeks of recovery time. Snake bite also brings an immediate end to a hunting expedition.

Consider the advantages of snake proof boots for swamp hunting when planning your next wetland adventure. - 29871
