The Importance Of Gold In Electronics

By Jack Wagon

One of the earliest found elements on this planet is gold, and it has been used for several purposes, and fields due to its unusual characteristics. With an atomic symbol of "Au", gold has been discovered as a useful element for several things. All this is because it comprises of features, which can help in various ways, and because it is quite convenient and easy to use.

Gold consists of amazing properties, which makes it a unique element. It is a good conductor of electricity, is harmless, and does not lose its colour. It is easy to use, since it can be given any shape, and can be molded easily. Amongst the many metals, gold stands on the top due to its exterior. Hence, humans tend to fall in love with this metal, and purchase it commonly.

For a wide range of things, this metal is applicable, due to its exceptional features. Amongst the many purposes is its usage in food and drink, manufacturing, drugs, jewellery, devices, aerospace, and also electronics. The reason for using gold in the development of electricity is its property of being a good conductor of heat and not wearing off easily.

Out of the many fields of electronics gold is commonly used in plating connection between connectors, relays, and switches. Electronic appliances that require large amounts of electricity have electrical wiring made out of gold. Undoubtedly, gold is used heavily in the field of electronics, and holds an important position.

Significantly, low amount of voltage and current is used when it comes to solid-state electronic devices; this is usually hindered by erosion. Since gold can avoid erosion, it is used to cater this purpose. It is an efficient conductor of electricity, and can carry the current with much ease, without encountering corrosion as an obstacle. Gold is also used in soldered joints, connecting wires, and connecting strips.

Global positioning system (GPS) unit, calculators, mobile phones, and personal digital assistants are out of the many important electronic items in which, gold is used commonly. Computers such as laptops and desktop also have some use of gold. Other small category electronic gadgets and appliances also need some quantity of gold for production.

With tremendous precision and pace, gold has the capability of sending out the digital information, which is done between two components. Since the requirement of the transmission is to have a trustworthy, and useful conductor, gold fits for this position perfectly, meeting all the requirements. Of course, the unique features of gold compensate with its high price.

The memory chips and microprocessors are taken by gold to the motherboard, plug, and socket connectors that are attached with the wires and cables. Even the edge connectors require gold in order to work. Cobalt and nickel are some of the metals, which are combined with gold to create a much great force of alloy. Remedial equipments and humanity are other purposes for which gold is applied. - 29871
